A Path Less Traveled

The sunset light hits one of the trees over our house site.       This website is about the process of creating a house that will support a modern sustainable lifestyle but the implications run far deeper than building techniques and carpentry. If this project were to be compared to a graduate paper, the thesis of said paper would be:
The modern American lifestyle is the result of a cruel deception that begs the assertion - "There must be a better way."
After initial research, I have determined that - yes, there are many better ways and what follows is an account of one such approach. Does the idea of stepping into a life with all the depth and wonder of the lives of our ancestors sound appealing? If so, read on.

Given a choice between working in a cubicle in an office tower versus relaxing outside in the sun, would you choose the cubicle or the sun? Most anyone would say that they choose the later, yet in action, 99% of Americans choose to work – work – work. Why? In most cases Americans feel that they do not have a choice because (despite living in a free society) from birth, we all are exposed to a perpetual flow of deceits, convincing us that the pursuit of happiness is not a birthright but a privilege that one may only attain after 8 hours of work per day in a box.

Ignore what you’ve been told about so-called "alternative living". Modern American life is an attrocious concoction of industry. You have the RIGHT to experience your life. Consider the lives of people of eons ago (and today) that live in tribes. Tribal people work very few hours per day and spend the majority of their long and mostly disease-free lifetimes relaxing and engaging in intellectual pursuits. Because of MASSIVE amount of leisure time, the Mayan Indians for example were able to make discoveries in astronomy so advanced beyond their European contemporaries that only recently has Western science begun to catch up to their monstrous lead. Why should these people have such a high level of living and you have to sit in a box for 8 hours in an uncomfortable chair?!

At the hands of industry and the possession-rich captains of industry, We the People have been bamboozled for far too long. The time has come to take back our “inalienable rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit or happiness”. We must shrug off the weighty preconceptions about how a industrial-society-approved life must be lived and to adopt a hybrid lifestyle borrowing from the best of the ancient and the best of modern knowledge. The synthesis of these two elements creates a lifestyle that can best be described as Heaven on Earth.

Don’t believe it? Don’t want to risk trying what countless thousands before you have tried and proven? That’s okay – but there’s plenty of heaven to go around.

This site is devoted to the personal life experiment of Adam and Dawn-Marie Starr in remembering a lifestyle that has been forgotten for too long. You are very welcome to explore and share in our experience.
